Genealogy trace, one printable page carrying the proposed code

Under the variant field this directory proposes, this cat would read DBE 161p. A carrier of a variant with no published allele, on no named line. This is the group bare 161 exists for. The proposal is set out in full here, and no registry issues this field today: it is computed from the record at each build and is not part of any registration.

How this cat is connected to the trait

No recorded parent link joins this cat to a founder or to a tested animal. What the record rests on instead is the line recorded on it, Nadeya, which is a source's attribution and not a descent this register can walk; and no recorded parent at all, which is a gap in the sources and not a statement that the cat had none.

No parent is recorded for this cat in the register, so no genealogy can be drawn. That is a gap in the sources, not a statement that the cat had none. Any offspring the register holds are listed below.

What the prefix suggests

DBE-nad, on a prefix match only. No pedigree is held for this cat and no variant is adopted for it. Other cats of the Ermine Trace prefix in this register carry DBE-nad, on evidence graded genotyped at best. That is a prefix match and not an attribution: a prefix names a cattery, and a cattery can hold more than one population. It is recorded so that this cat appears on a list worth testing, and only a laboratory or a pedigree takes it off.

What is flagged

  1. Ermine trace Hermes. Eye and coat, the strongest exclusion this register can make from a code. This cat is blue-eyed in both eyes and its recorded coat carries no white spotting code at all, is not dominant white and is not colourpointed. Nothing in the coat can pale an iris. A dominant blue eye is present and it is not the KIT odd-eye case and not the white-cat case. Its registry has entered no dominant eye code on it. Which variant is not deducible from a coat code and none is adopted: a genotype or a trace to a named founder would name it.

A flag is not an error. It marks a place where two sources say different things, or where an attribution cannot be made on the evidence held.

The description held
A black silver shaded British shorthair coded 63, the odd eye, with no white figure and no point figure anywhere on the code. Nothing on that coat supplies an ordinary cause for a pale eye: a silver shaded British carries no white spotting to reach an orbit and no colourpoint gene to pale both. His breeder states the cause in the caption, 'with a dominant gene for blue eyes' The photograph and the code disagree and his age is why. He is three months old in it and both eyes are still blue, which is what every kitten of that age looks like; the 63 is the breeder's code for the adult animal. The code is recorded and the photograph is recorded as a juvenile one, and neither is used to correct the other no parents are recorded for him and no variant is adopted. He is held to the Nadeya line on the prefix and on the breeder's own words, which is a line attribution and not a descent. A pedigree would put him where the other coded cats of this prefix stand. This directory is a working aid compiled from published charts, registry documents and breeder statements. It is not a register and it has no standing of any kind. The grade attaches to the animal, not to the line: a cat whose ancestor was genotyped is line-traced, not genotyped.
